Raw, candid, and shot through with warmth and humour Rebecca Clarke’s Unspoken
is a beautifully poetic one-woman show that takes the audience on a journey
inside a young woman’s soul, mind and heart. Unspoken is a
semi-autobiographical piece exploring a woman’s relationship with her severely
disabled brother and her first love.
THE PRODUCTION STORY SO FAR
Rebecca Clarke started writing her one-woman show,
Unspoken, in 2003. In 2004 she took the piece to the Australian National
Playwright’s Conference where she worked with Peter Matheson (ex Melbourne
Theatre Company dramaturg) to re-imagine the story. Later she consulted with
dramaturg Mary-Anne Gifford then Wayne Blair joined as director and dramaturg
for the premier performance at the Old Fitzroy Theatre in Woolloomooloo in
2005. (Wayne went on to director Ursula Yovich in The 7 Stages of Grieving for
the Sydney Theatre Company’s Education program, alongside his acclaimed film
making, and acting roles.) Unspoken was highly commended for the Philip Parsons
Playwriting Award, shortlisted for the 2006 NSW Premier’s Literary Awards and
published by Currency Press that same year. (Order your copy at
